Hi guys! This here is my rendition of the Marauders Map, inspired by the film prop created by the franchise’s graphic designers Eduardo Lima and Miraphora Mina.
I started making this four years ago during a summer where I was feeling extremely anti-social :L It was an extremely long process; from measuring, cutting and gluing all the different pages, tabs and compartments, to painting it in watercolour to resemble ageing parchment. I then drew the details using (at the time) felt tip pens, making sure to include every room, corridor, staircase and hidden passageway that I could recall from the books, films and games. Every outline is a series of words and letters - I don’t know Latin (which the film prop was inscribed with) so some random letters and the occasional spell can be seen
As you can see from the images above, the ‘doors’ unfold to reveal the grounds, Hogsmeade, Lake, Quidditch Pitch and areas of the Forbidden Forest. The centre of the map opens with flaps that pull back to reveal each floor at a time. There are also compartments on the grounds, which reveal the secret passage under the Whomping Willow.
I recently discovered it a few days ago, and have been adding acrylic to it, so that the larger details look like they have been done with ink. I have also added strips of masking tape and sell-o-tape, just so that it appears like it has been used many times for years, having been passed down from Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs to the Weasleys and of course, Potter and co.
There are so many little details, compartments and ‘levels’ to this map that I have created, so I am sure that any massive Potter fan would love to look through it - especially when revisiting the books or films. As I have no need for it now, it is currently for sale! (See below).
